A possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and Putin should be viewed not as a question of trust in Russia, but as a question of action on the part of the aggressor country.

“This is not a question of trust. It is a question of action. The president described how disappointed he was with Russia's actions, which we have seen over the past few weeks,” said State Department Deputy Spokesman Tommy Piggott.

He added that Trump spoke of the need to see action, not just words, according to European Truth.

“So it's not a question of trust. It's a question of action and doing everything possible to promote peace and end this war,” he said.

The US is in constant contact with its partners in Europe and Ukraine.

He reiterated that the Trump administration's ultimate goal is to end this conflict, bring the parties to the negotiating table, achieve a ceasefire and long-term peace.
