Ukraine is ready to consider ending hostilities by ceding territories currently controlled by Russia as part of a European peace initiative.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine rejects any agreements under which it would cede further territory to Russia. The possibility of freezing the front line at its current positions, with de facto recognition of Russia's control over the occupied parts of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson regions, and Crimea, is being considered, according to The Telegraph.

“The plan can only concern the current positions held by the troops,” a Western official said, commenting on the progress of diplomatic consultations.

Zelensky emphasized that Russia is not showing any willingness to end the war, but on the contrary, is building up its forces for new offensive operations. He added that Ukraine would only agree to peace on condition of reliable security guarantees, including arms supplies and the prospect of NATO membership.

There is growing concern in Europe that the agreements between Trump and Putin could lead to a freeze of the conflict along the current front lines, which would effectively recognize Russia's occupation of part of Ukrainian territory. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed “many fears and much hope,” noting that the US had promised to consult with its European allies before the meeting between the US and Russian leaders.

Russia is seeking Ukraine's complete surrender, including blocking its accession to NATO and demilitarization.
