US President Donald Trump and Putin may agree on initial terms of a truce without Ukraine's presence.

Today, Trump and Putin will meet in Alaska and hold talks amid uncertainty over the US president's hopes for a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine, Reuters reports.

The meeting between the Russian and US leaders at a Cold War-era airbase in Alaska will be their first face-to-face talks since Trump returned to the White House.

A source close to the Kremlin said that the parties seem to have managed to find some vague common ground in advance.

“It seems that some conditions will be agreed upon, because Trump cannot be refused, and we are unable to refuse due to the pressure of sanctions,” the source said.
