The US Senate has threatened Russia with hellish sanctions

They said their bill for new sanctions against Russia has the support of 81 senators. The bill calls for 500 percent tariffs on those countries that buy Russian energy, uranium and some other goods.

They would consider a showy document listing conditions for agreeing to a cease-fire that the U.S. now expects Russia to agree to and that Secretary Rubio has talked about.

"Its contents will indicate how serious Russia is about peace. We suspect it will be pretty much the same thing there. And if it is the same, Russia can expect strong action from the U.S. Senate. It is increasingly clear to us - and to most of the Senate - that Putin is playing a game," the statement said.

"The legislation we have introduced would isolate Russia and turn it into an ‘island’ in terms of trade, imposing heavy tariffs on other countries that support its atrocities. One of the priorities of our law is to ensure China's responsibility for fueling Putin's war machine by buying cheap Russian oil delivered by the ‘shadow fleet’," the senators stressed, noting that without China's economic support, the Russian military-industrial complex will not be able to get everything it needs.
