The UK has called on EU leaders to refrain from commenting on the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Putin.

Comments from French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas could backfire and cause Trump to exclude Europe from the negotiation process, according to The Telegraph.

The meeting between Trump and Putin is scheduled for Friday in Anchorage, Alaska. The leaders will not be accompanied by advisers, and the talks will be held face to face.

The most effective way to influence the US president is through private consultations, not public demands.

The UK is refraining from making any public statements to Trump.

Useless constant comments from European leaders only annoy Americans and risk weakening the US negotiating position.

Public pressure could distract Trump from taking the European position into account and complicate the achievement of a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine.

The UK calls for restraint and diplomatic influence behind the scenes to ensure that the negotiations remain constructive and are not subject to external pressure.
