We're on the cusp of something important - Whitkoff

"This is the third meeting I've had with him. The last meeting lasted almost five hours. Then two of his key advisers, Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, were in the room. And it was a compelling meeting. And near the end, we actually came to - I'd like to say definitively, but it's not in the sense that we were expecting. I mean, it took us a while to get to this point. Putin's request is to reach a permanent peace here," said Whitkoff.

Asked if the agreement would include anything out of the ordinary, Whitkoff said, "There's no doubt about it. I mean, this peace agreement deals with the so-called five territories, but there is much more. There are security protocols. There's no NATO, Article 5 of NATO in there. I mean, you know, there's a lot of details involved. It's a complex situation because it's based on some really problematic things going on between the two countries," Interfax-Ukraine reported.

He expressed confidence that “we could be on the cusp of something that will be very, very important for the world at large,” referring to the possibility of changing relations between Russia and the US through some very attractive commercial opportunities that he believes provide real stability in the region.
