US sanctions have changed Putin's calculations, says State Department

“Sometimes there are indeed attempts to drag out the process, to draw other players into the game. We see that for Putin, this may be an attempt to buy time and shift the situation in his favor. This is not only about the war, but also about the economy,” said US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce.

According to her, now that President Trump has made it clear that he is ready and able to impose new economic measures — secondary or even direct sanctions — this could be a factor that has changed Putin's calculations, NewsNation reports.
