In response to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, Germany is providing Ukraine with an additional €70 million in aid.

German Development Minister Rima Alabali Radovan said her ministry is expanding aid to provide heating, water, and electricity to more than 2.5 million people, Tagesschau reports.

“Especially now, in the cold winter, immediate assistance is crucial to meet Ukraine's basic energy needs,” she said.

The funds are primarily intended for investments in decentralized heat supply, such as mobile heating units.

“Municipalities must be able to guarantee heating for schools, kindergartens, and hospitals, even if large power plants have been attacked. These energy supply measures will help people organize their daily lives,” Radovan said.

The Ukrainian side made a corresponding request to Germany.
