Russia prepares new strikes on Ukraine's energy sector

“We have sufficient information about preparations for further Russian strikes on our energy sector and infrastructure, including facilities and networks serving our nuclear power plants,” said Rostislav Palagushinets, Ukraine's deputy permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna.

He noted that each such Russian strike on the energy sector in the middle of a harsh winter weakens and undermines the efforts of key states, including the US, to end the war, Ukrinform reports.

“Ukraine is as constructive as possible in diplomacy, while Russia is focused only on strikes and mocking people,” Palagushinets said.

He said that in the current heating season alone, Russia has carried out 256 air strikes on Ukraine's energy and critical infrastructure, and since January 11, strikes on energy facilities have been occurring almost daily.

"War criminal Putin continues to wage a genocidal war against women, children, and the elderly. This winter campaign has a clear humanitarian dimension: the attacks are synchronized and structured to maximize suffering when temperatures drop to extreme levels and interruptions in heat, electricity, and water supply become life-threatening. Russia is deliberately trying to create living conditions designed to physically destroy the Ukrainian people, which fits the definition of Article II (c) of the Genocide Convention," he said.
