NATO secretary general praises Trump

“I think President Trump is right that before you can support peace, you first have to achieve peace. And there is no peace yet. But at the same time, we all agree that you have to work in parallel, because when there is a ceasefire or there is a peace agreement, you have to make sure that you can somehow guarantee that peace. And one of the models for that is what the French and the British are working on with many other countries. And that conversation is an important one, it's also closely related to the United States. But again, according to President Trump, first a peace agreement before we can keep the peace,” Rutte said.

He emphasized the importance of the Franco-British initiative on the peacekeeping mission, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

“It is good that the French and the British have taken the initiative so that when there is a peace agreement or a ceasefire in Ukraine, it will be a matter of security guarantees. One way to do that would be European troops in Ukraine. But there could be other ways to do it,” he said.

Rutte praised US President Donald Trump, saying: “What I really want to point out is that thanks to him there is now a breakthrough on Ukraine in terms of starting negotiations with both the Russians and the Ukrainians. That's important.”
