G7 countries demand that Russia pay reparations to Ukraine

Frozen Russian assets will remain immobilized until Russia stops its aggression and pays for the damage caused to Ukraine.

The corresponding statement was published by the press service of the Canadian presidency of the G7.

In the document, which is published on behalf of the countries of the G7 finance ministers and heads of central banks following the meeting on May 20-22 in Banff, Canada, condemn the war unleashed by Russia, support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and welcome the ongoing efforts to try to establish a ceasefire.

If a ceasefire cannot be achieved, the G7 countries will consider all possible options, including options to maximize sanctions pressure.

“We reaffirm that, in accordance with our legal systems, Russia's sovereign assets in our jurisdictions will remain frozen until Russia ceases its aggression and compensates for the damage caused to Ukraine,” the document emphasized.

The G7 countries pledged to promote investor confidence through bilateral and multilateral initiatives to rebuild and rebuild Ukraine.

“We agreed to work with Ukraine to ensure that no country or entity or entities from those countries that financed or supplied Russian military equipment are allowed to profit from the rebuilding of Ukraine,” the document added.
