EU prepares new package of toughest sanctions against Russia

The number of Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities has increased fivefold since US President Donald Trump announced a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, which was backed by Ukraine, TF1 reports.

"This cannot go on any further, it has to stop. To achieve this, in coordination with US senators, Europe is preparing to impose, on the basis of French proposals, the strictest sanctions we have imposed in the last three years. They will directly drain the resources that allow Vladimir Putin to continue his war," said French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot.

The new package includes not only the energy sector, particularly oil export revenues, but also financial players in Russia itself and beyond. We are talking about entities and individuals who help the Kremlin circumvent the sanctions. This is why, according to Barro, Putin retains the ability to wage war despite growing international pressure.

"Putin is no longer advancing on the frontline and is now limited to shelling residential areas with drones and missiles. This is causing many civilian casualties. This must stop," Barro emphasized.
