US President Donald Trump has sent a high-level delegation from the Department of Defense to Kyiv.

This move is the latest attempt by the Trump administration to resume negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, according to The Wall Street Journal.

US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, along with two four-star generals, was scheduled to hold talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials, as well as high-ranking officials and industry representatives.

Driscoll plans to meet with Russian officials as well, but at a later date.

The White House's decision to turn to Driscoll and senior officials is partly based on the belief that Moscow may be more open to negotiations with military mediation, as well as disappointment that numerous previous attempts have yielded little results.

Driscoll is traveling to Ukraine to familiarize himself with the facts on the ground. He is expected to participate in meetings and report his findings to the White House.

“The president has made it clear that it is time to stop the killing and reach an agreement to end the war,” an unnamed US official said.

Driscoll's mission is to resume peace talks on behalf of Trump.
