Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev discussed a plan to pass on Russia's peace plan to Donald Trump's team so that the Americans could present these ideas as their own initiative.

Bloomberg published the contents of a conversation between Ushakov and Dmitriev that took place on October 29. Russian officials discussed handing over a document to Steve Whitcoff, the US president's special envoy to Russia.

According to the Kremlin's plan, Whitcoff was to receive the Russian draft agreement and present it as his own plan for resolving the war in Ukraine.

During the conversation, Dmitriev suggested that the document be handed over informally so that the American side could present it as its own development. He expressed hope that the text would remain as close as possible to the Russian original.

“It seems to me that we will simply make this paper our own position, and I will informally convey that all of this is informal. They can present it as their own. However, I believe that they will not adopt our version entirely, but at least as closely as possible,” Dmitriev stated.

Ushakov expressed concerns about this plan. Putin's aide was worried that Vitkoff might change the content of the plan and then claim that these changes had been agreed with Moscow, which would lead to a misinterpretation of Russia's demands.

"The thing is, they might not take it, but they'll say that it's been agreed with us. That's what I'm afraid of... They can then reword everything. Well, there is such a danger," Ushakov said.

In response, Dmitriev assured Ushakov that he would ask Vitkoff to keep the wording “word for word” and that everything would be done carefully. He noted that Ushakov would be able to discuss the document with Vitkoff in person later.

The American side, having received the Russian document, probably did not even attempt to produce a high-quality translation. The text was simply run through an automatic translator.
