US wants to create NATO 3.0

The US wants to see a NATO based on partnership rather than dependence, according to European Truth.

“In 2025, thanks to the leadership of the president and the secretary general, there was a rethinking and a genuine commitment to the idea that Europe should lead NATO's conventional defense,” said US Deputy Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby.

He said that in a sense, this process is a real return to “NATO 1.0” — a serious alliance focused on defense and deterrence.

"This year we have a good message: it's time to stand together, be pragmatic, and focus on the kind of flexible realism that underpins and is truly demonstrated by the US National Security Strategy and National Defense Strategy. We have a really solid foundation for working together as partners, but turning NATO into a kind of “NATO 3.0,” based on partnership rather than dependency, is a real return to what NATO was originally intended to be," Colby added.
