On Thursday night, a man suspected of involvement in the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines was detained in the province of Rimini.

The German Federal Prosecutor's Office said that the suspect is a Ukrainian citizen, according to Bild.

According to the investigation, he was part of a group that planted explosive devices on the pipelines near the island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea in September 2022. The prosecutor's office claims that Sergei K. was one of the coordinators of the operation. The saboteurs left the port of Rostock on a rented yacht. The vessel was rented through front men and using forged documents from a German company.
