Trump wants to completely remove Iran's leadership

US President Donald Trump has said that the US should be involved in choosing Iran's next leader.

In his opinion, the son of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has become the favorite in the struggle to succeed his father, who was killed in a military strike at the beginning of the war, is unlikely to become Iran's next leader, Reuters reports.

“We will have to choose this person together with Iran. We will have to choose this person,” he said.

Trump called on Iranian Kurdish forces to go on the offensive six days after the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on Saturday.

The conflict has killed more than 1,000 people, including at least six American soldiers, and has caused damage and instability throughout the Middle East.

“I think it's great that they want to do that, I'm all for it,” the president said of the Kurds.

Regarding the succession of power in the Islamic Republic, the US leader drew a parallel with Venezuela, where American troops removed dictator Nicolas Maduro in January, leaving his deputy Delcy Rodriguez at the helm of the country, who, according to Trump, has done a remarkable job.

“We want to be involved in the process of choosing the person who will lead Iran into the future so that we don't have to come back every five years and do it over and over again. We want someone who will be great for the people, great for the country,” he said.

He said that Khamenei's son Mojtaba, who has become the favorite to succeed him, is an unlikely candidate.

When asked whether exiled Iranian Prince Reza Pahlavi, son of the last shah, was a possible candidate, Trump replied: “I think everyone has a chance. It's too early to talk about that.”

When asked whether the US would provide air support to Iranian Kurdish forces considering intervention in western Iran, Trump replied, “I can't tell you that,” but added that the Kurds' goal would be “victory.”

“If they're going to do it, that's fine,” he said.

Trump expressed confidence that the main sea route near Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, would remain open.

“They don't have a navy, you know, it's at the bottom of the sea right now. I'm watching the Strait of Hormuz very closely,” he said.
Trump said he is not concerned about rising gasoline prices.

“They will fall very quickly when this is over. And if they go up, they go up. But this is much more important than a small increase in gasoline prices,” he said.

He would not predict how long the conflict would last, but noted that it was developing very quickly.

“I would say it's developing faster than anticipated and much stronger than anyone could have expected,” Trump said.

Trump said he wants to see the complete removal of Iran's leadership and that he has several candidates for the position of a good leader.

“We want to intervene and clean everything up. We don't want anyone to rebuild the country for 10 years. We want them to have a good leader. We have a few people who, in my opinion, will do a good job,” he said.

Trump is taking steps to ensure that the people on his list survive the war, but he did not name them.

“We are watching them, yes,” Trump said.
