Trump demands $15 billion from The New York Times

Trump accused them of libel and defamation, citing damage to his reputation, Reuters reports.

Trump's lawsuit mentions a series of articles in The New York Times, one of which was an editorial before the 2024 presidential election stating that he was unfit for office, as well as a book published by Penguin in 2024 titled "The Happy Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father's Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success."

“The defendants maliciously published the book and articles knowing that these publications contained disgusting distortions and fabrications about President Trump,” the lawsuit states.

Trump's lawyers said the publications damaged the US president's business and personal reputation, thereby causing significant economic damage to the value of his brand and significant damage to his future financial prospects.

“The damage to the value of TMTG's stock is one example of how the defendants' defamation has harmed President Trump,” his lawyers said, citing a sharp drop in the stock price.

TMTG shares have been under pressure in recent months due to concerns about the end of the so-called lock-up period associated with the company's stock market debut in March.
