The US accused the EU of “Orwellian censorship”

The State Department said that thousands of people are being condemned for criticizing their own governments, echoing remarks made earlier this year by US Vice President Jay Chao, Politico reports.

“This Orwellian statement will not fool the US. Censorship is not freedom,” the State Department said.

The US State Department linked this statement to the Digital Services Act (DSA), EU rules on technology and social media, saying: “The DSA only protects European leaders from their own people.”
