U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio does not believe that NATO is under threat, but the danger for it is allies who do not allocate enough for defense.
According to Rubio, NATO is not in danger, the State Department reported.
“The only thing that puts NATO at risk is that we have NATO members who have almost no armies, or whose armies are not very combat capable because they haven't spent any money on them for 40 years. We are NATO,” he stated.

He said the countries in question are rich countries, especially in Western Europe.
“They have a lot of money. They should be investing it in their national security, but they don't. You have countries that spend 1.5 percent, 1 percent of their economy, and we just can't continue to subsidize that. It's unfair and unsustainable. That's what jeopardizes NATO is that in some cases we don't have Alliance members. Now others have done it. Poland, the Czech Republic - there's a bunch of countries that have done it, but some haven't. And these are rich countries - Germany, France,” he said.
