The German government plans to increase financial aid to Ukraine by around €3 billion in 2026 and is preparing to approve the relevant amendments to the draft budget.

The proposal for an additional €3 billion in support for Ukraine will be included by the German finance and defense ministers in the final adjustments to the 2026 budget, Reuters reports.

These funds will be used for artillery, drones, armored vehicles, and the replacement of two Patriot air defense systems transferred to Ukraine.

“We will continue to provide as much support as is necessary to defend against Russia's war of aggression,” the source said.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz supported the proposal for additional funding.

Germany is Europe's largest donor of military aid to Ukraine and has provided around €40 billion since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.

In its draft budget for 2026, Germany had previously earmarked €8.5 billion to support Ukraine.
