Powerful earthquake strikes Turkey

The 5.4-magnitude quake struck the town of Simav in Kutahya province at a depth of 8 kilometers, the AP reported.

The tremor struck at 12:59 p.m. and was followed by a 4.0-magnitude aftershock.

The earthquake was also felt in Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, located about 100 kilometers to the north.
