Hollywood's boldest star turns 65

Fair-skinned, red-haired beauties are one of the most dazzling and sexy categories of film actresses. But many of them tend to fade quickly, which is certainly not the case with Julianne Moore. This is either due to luck, or to her unique nature as an actress who simply has no interest in and no time for aging.

And here's another way she differs from other Hollywood stars who have struggled to transition into a different age category—from roles of seductive and temperamental beauties (for example, Moore in the excellent thriller "Assassins," where her character, an adventurer and hacker, is partnered with Sylvester Stallone) to roles like those of mothers.

But even here, Moore was "different." Let's take one example, perhaps not her best film (though she always delivers highly professional performances), Savage Grace (2007), where she does indeed play a mother, but a mother who seduces her own son (Eddie Redmayne) because she sees homosexual tendencies budding in him.

Moore is already 47 years old in this film, but she's dazzlingly beautiful. In the film, she ultimately dies at the hands of her son, and the film is generally difficult to watch, especially in the last third—but that's Moore's style. Incidentally, the entire plot is based on a true story, although one of the three actors, played by Sam Green, the heroine's lover in the film, claims in reality that he never slept with her son, who is almost his own age. And, again, in reality, he says, "I don't believe she had sex with Tony. I think she just liked to shock people."

However, don't think that all of Moore's roles are "so heavy." Although it should be noted that she is not only an Oscar winner and other prestigious American acting awards recipient, but also a Best Actress winner at all three major international film festivals – Cannes, Venice, and Berlin – and these awards are given specifically for such roles.

So, if we return to Moore's "maternal" roles, we might recall "The Kids Are All Right" (2010), in which the actress is one half of a same-sex couple with two children, not adopted, but conceived by donors. Unlike the difficult-to-watch "Savage Grace," "The Kids Are All Right" is a comedy that was deservedly nominated for four Oscars.

All this doesn't mean Moore only plays shocking roles, but the best directors know that if their upcoming film features an unusual heroine that not every actress would be willing to play, then the best candidate, assuming she has the right personality, is Moore.

Moore is equally spirited in public life, where she is an avid liberal and supporter of the US Democratic Party. And, of course, we Ukrainians cannot help but recall that after Russia's full-scale armed invasion, Moore supported Ukraine by posting a photo on social media wearing a yellow-and-blue cashmere hat from an Italian brand, noting that all proceeds from the purchase would be donated to UNICEF Ukraine.
