China launches trade war against the US

Beijing's new tariffs on U.S. exports will take effect on February 10, Reuters reported.

Trump's additional 10 percent duties on all Chinese imports to the U.S. went into effect on Tuesday. The Chinese government said it would impose 15 percent duties on coal and liquefied natural gas from the U.S., as well as 10 percent duties on crude oil, agricultural machinery, and heavy-duty automobiles.

China's Ministry of Commerce and its customs administration impose export controls on tungsten, tellurium, ruthenium, molybdenum, and ruthenium-related goods to protect national security interests.

China controls most of the world's supply of rare earth elements, which are critical to the transition to clean energy.

"The unilateral U.S. tariff hike seriously violates World Trade Organization rules. It not only fails to help solve its own problems, but also damages normal economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States," the Chinese authorities said in a statement.

China's State Administration of Market Regulation said it is investigating Google on suspicion of violating anti-monopoly laws.
