China accuses U.S. of derailing trade truce

“The US has unilaterally provoked new trade disputes. Instead of reflecting on their own actions, they groundlessly accused China of violating the consensus,” China's Ministry of Commerce said.

According to the Chinese side, Washington has imposed a series of discriminatory and restrictive measures in recent weeks, including revoking visas for Chinese students, limiting the supply of chip design software and increasing pressure on companies like Huawei, the Financial Times reported.

All of this, according to Beijing, directly contradicts the agreements in Geneva, which were supposed to halt tariff escalation between the countries - at the time, the two sides agreed to temporarily reduce duties that were as high as 145%.

“If the US insists on going its own way and continues to harm China's interests, China will continue to take resolute measures to protect its legitimate rights,” the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said.
