A US fighter jet has fallen off an aircraft carrier into the Red Sea

The F/A-18E fighter jet was being towed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman when it broke off and fell overboard.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is now ongoing.

“The F/A-18E was being towed in a hangar when the crew lost control of the aircraft. The airplane and the tow tractor fell overboard. The sailors who were towing the aircraft took immediate action to move away from the aircraft before it fell overboard,” the U.S. Navy said in a statement.

One sailor suffered minor injuries.

The USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier strike group and carrier squadron remain fully operational after the incident.

A fighter jet of this type costs nearly $70 million dollars.

The aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman has been in the Middle East for several months and has recently been involved in intensive military operations against Husitic militants in Yemen.
