A strong earthquake struck Turkey

According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD), the epicenter of the 6.1-magnitude earthquake was in the town of Sindirgi in Balikesir province, the AP reports.

The earthquake struck at 10:48 p.m. local time at a depth of 5.99 kilometers.

The earthquake, which was followed by several aftershocks, was felt in Istanbul and the neighboring provinces of Bursa, Manisa, and Izmir.

According to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, at least three unoccupied buildings and a two-story store collapsed in Sındırgı. These structures had already been damaged during a previous earthquake.

Balıkesir Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu said that a total of 22 people were injured. There is no information about fatalities.
