The 16th Odesa International Film Festival has kicked off in Kyiv and will run until October 4.

The festival's opening ceremony began with a moment of silence in memory of the fallen defenders and Ukrainian artists who perished during the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Odesa International Film Festival President Victoria Tigipko emphasized the role of Ukrainian cinema in the world in her address: "Today, Ukrainian cinema has become the voice of truth and resilience. Our victories at international festivals prove that it is recognizable and needed by the world. This is a film about resilience—the ability to persevere and speak the truth when times are tough. Strength, creativity, inspiration, and fortitude are the foundation of our cultural DNA."

According to the festival's website, over the course of 11 days, viewers can watch 113 films, including 104 feature-length films, across 18 programs. The festival's competition programs include the National Documentary Competition and the European Competition, presenting new talent and relevant themes in contemporary cinema.

In addition to the competition sections, there are thematic programs: "Focus on Poland," "German Accent," "Best of Europe," "Gala Premieres," "Festival of Festivals," "Human Comedy," "Friendly Eyes," and many others. They offer a chance to see the diverse faces of Ukrainian and world cinema.

An important part of the OIFF are educational events: panel discussions, meetings with directors, Q&A sessions after screenings, master classes, and presentations that introduce audiences to film production developments and current industry trends.
