Slovakia and Hungary will resist pressure from US President Donald Trump to reduce imports of Russian oil and gas until EU countries find alternative sources of supply.

“Before we can fully commit, we need to create the right conditions—otherwise, we risk seriously damaging our industry and economy,” said Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Sakova.

She added that sufficient infrastructure must first be created to support alternative routes, according to Bloomberg.

Sakova clearly expressed Slovakia's position during talks with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright in Vienna this week.

According to her, the Trump administration representative expressed understanding of this, acknowledging that the US should intensify energy projects in Europe.

The head of the Hungarian Prime Minister's Office, Gergely Gulyás, said that his country would reject EU initiatives that threaten the security of its energy supply.
