Rubio names key element for ending war in Ukraine

Rubio added that a ceasefire should be part of the peace process because, according to him, it is difficult to negotiate the details of a final peace agreement when you are shooting at each other, the State Department reports.

Therefore, the secretary of state is convinced that, ideally, it is necessary to move to a short-term ceasefire and use this time to finally resolve the conflict.

He believes that there is a long way to go to understand how to end the war.

Rubio said that territorial issues will be key elements of any end to the war.

“There must be concessions in any agreement; concessions must be made by Russia and, of course, by Ukraine. It's difficult... I think the conditions under which it should end are always the difficult part,” he said.

The US now has a better understanding of the conditions under which Russia would be willing to end the war.

“Now we have to compare that with what the Ukrainians and our European allies are willing to accept, but of course, first and foremost, the Ukrainians,” the secretary of state added.

He emphasized that for the first time since the beginning of Donald Trump's administration, we have concrete examples of what Russia may demand in order to end the war.
