US wants full ceasefire in Ukraine

US officials at a meeting in Paris have told their European counterparts that they intend to achieve a full cessation of hostilities in Ukraine in the coming weeks as part of a new diplomatic effort.

On April 17, talks were held in Paris with the main topic being the earliest possible achievement of a ceasefire in Ukraine and the start of a long-term peace, Bloomberg reported.

The meeting was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, U.S. Presidential Special Envoy Steve Whitkoff and representatives of the Ukrainian side.

According to them, the negotiators expressed support for Donald Trump's key foreign policy priority of ending the war as soon as possible.

The US delegation emphasized that it expects noticeable progress in this direction in the near future. All sides of the meeting agreed to strengthen coordination to achieve this goal.

European representatives expressed interest in Washington's intentions in case the Kremlin does not make concessions.

They sought to convince the US to take a tougher stance against Russia, including the possibility of introducing a powerful package of sanctions, which they said Trump had previously considered.
