European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that EU countries are developing fairly clear plans for the potential deployment of troops in Ukraine as part of post-war security guarantees, which will have the full support of the US.
According to von der Leyen, there is a clear roadmap for the possible deployment of troops, the Financial Times reports.
“Security guarantees are of paramount importance and absolutely necessary. We have a clear roadmap, and we have reached an agreement with the White House, and this work is progressing very well,” she said.

She added that work is continuing on plans for the deployment of multinational troops and support from the Americans.
“President Trump has assured us that the US will be there as a supporting element. This has been stated very clearly and repeatedly confirmed,” the EC president noted.
She said that last week, the heads of defense departments of the so-called “coalition of the determined” held a meeting and developed fairly detailed plans, including discussion of the necessary elements for effective troop buildup.
“Of course, a political decision by the country concerned is always necessary, because the deployment of troops is one of the most important sovereign decisions of a nation. (But) the sense of urgency is very high, and the matter is moving forward. It is really taking shape,” von der Leyen stressed.
According to her, the Armed Forces of Ukraine should become the basis of deterrence in the post-war period.
The European Commission will seek new sources of funding to ensure sustainable financing of the Ukrainian armed forces as a guarantee of security.
"After the conclusion of any peace agreement, Kyiv will need a significant number of soldiers who need good salaries and, of course, modern equipment. Undoubtedly, the EU will have to make an effort. Existing EU funding for Ukraine should continue in peacetime. The EU will also continue to fund the training of Ukrainian soldiers after any peace agreement is concluded," she said.
She called on EU member states to use the €150 billion arms credit fund to conclude joint production agreements with Ukrainian defense companies or to purchase weapons that can be transferred to Kyiv.
