Negotiations in Istanbul: exchange of prisoners, children and leaders' meeting

Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that Ukraine has seen Russia's proposals on ceasefire and ending the war for the first time, while Moscow has not given any answers to Ukrainian proposals, European Pravda reported.

“Our teams will have a week to study the documents, after which we will be able to coordinate further steps,” he said.

He said the sides on the issue of releasing prisoners of war had agreed to focus on specific categories rather than numbers.

“We agreed to exchange “all for all” seriously wounded and seriously ill POWs. The second category is young soldiers who are between 18 and 25 years old, 'all for all.' We have also agreed on the return of '6,000 by 6,000' bodies of dead soldiers,” he listed.

Ukraine has handed Russia a list of several hundred Ukrainian children who were deported to Russia and expects Moscow's actions in this direction.

Another item on the agenda of the talks was to organize a meeting at the leaders' level with possible involvement of other leaders, such as the US president.

“We believe that further work between the delegations makes sense if it is aimed at preparing a leaders' meeting. We proposed to the Russian side to hold a leaders' meeting before the end of this month - from June 20 to 30. This is very important for the negotiation process,” Umerov added.
