Bertrand Blier was 85 years old.

By a strange coincidence, two masters of avant-garde cinema passed away one after another - after David Lynch, Bertrand Blier died, who in France was perhaps no less a cult figure than his American colleague in the rest of the world.

Blier, whose death is reported by francetvinfo.fr, was born in 1939 to the family of actor Bernard Blier, well known to Ukrainian viewers. Already in 24, he made a splash, at least throughout France, with the documentary film "Hitler? I don't know him", which consisted of 11 interviews with young people aged 15 to 22, who represented a social cross-section of all of France. The title of the film is not a quote from it - Blier simply wanted to emphasize the apolitical nature of French youth and at the same time cause a scandal. He achieved both.

Blier's other films can also be called scandal-oriented, with their black and sometimes crude humor. However, he was a master of cinema, as proven by three French analogues of the Oscar, the César awards, and one American Oscar for best foreign film for the comedy Get Your Handkerchiefs Ready. It is also worth noting his surreal comedy of the absurd, Cold Appetizers, in which, like in his other films, Blier Jr. cast his father.

Blier Jr. was also accused of male-dominated films and was even called misogynist, but here it is worth noting one detail - it was for the leading role in his film Our Story that Alain Delon received his only César.
