Orban wants to persuade Trump to meet with Putin

Orban's priority during his visit to Washington is inviting Trump to Hungary, The Guardian reports.

Trump's visit will strengthen Orban's role as a statesman and energize his conservative base.

"Orban wants Trump to come to Budapest before the elections. This is a key priority. They will discuss Russian gas, but Orban's main concern is the elections," said a source working in the Hungarian government's foreign policy office.

Orban's chief of staff, Gergely Gujas, stated that Friday's meeting will be an opportunity for the two heads of state to define a roadmap that could lead to a meeting between the US and Russia, and then to a Russian-Ukrainian peace agreement.
