German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the issue of supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine remains open and is an option.

"It has always been clear that if we supply Tauruses, these weapons will be used not by German soldiers, but by Ukrainian soldiers. By the way, it is the same with other cruise missiles supplied by the UK or France," Merz said.

According to the chancellor, the Taurus system is extremely complex and its maintenance requires long training for the Ukrainian military, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

"The problem for us is that this system is extremely complex and it takes at least six months to train soldiers on it. Are they already being trained? That's something we haven't agreed on yet. I talked about it with Zelensky, I also discussed it in the coalition. We have not started yet. It is and remains an option," he said.

Germany will no longer publicly announce exactly what weapons it is transferring to Ukraine to prevent Russia from assessing the West's actions.

"I also said that we will no longer publicly discuss what weapons we are supplying and what we are doing to militarily support Ukraine in this way in the future, because I want Putin to have some uncertainty about what we are doing militarily. Only one thing is certain, and I repeat it in this program: Germany will not be a party to the war," he said.
