UK and Germany to develop superweapon

The project builds on a commitment made last year to develop the new weapons when the two countries signed a bilateral defense pact and noted the need for Europe to protect itself from any escalation of the war in Ukraine, Reuters reported.

British Defense Secretary John Gili and his German counterpart Boris Pistorius will announce the new long-range weapons project at a meeting in Berlin.

"In a more dangerous world, NATO and European allies are united. This partnership helps us make defense an engine of growth - creating jobs, building skills and attracting investment in the UK and Germany," Gili said.

The ministers will discuss joint purchases of torpedoes for maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft and announce an agreement on the purchase of British-made military bridges by Germany.
