Italy and Hungary have agreed to participate in the Peace Council initiative launched by US President Donald Trump.

"We have also been invited to be part of this process. I think Italy can play a leading role, and we are ready to contribute to the development of a peace plan. I believe that Italy is a very active player in the region, on good terms with all other regional players, so we are happy and will do our best to make a contribution that we believe can change the situation," said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that Budapest had accepted Trump's invitation to join the Peace Council as a founding member.
