US wants to produce air defense missiles in Europe

The countries will sign a statement of intent on joint production at the NATO Defense Industry Forum on the sidelines of the Ankara summit, Reuters reports.

Both PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems and AIM-120C-8 missiles, launched by NASAMS systems and F-16 fighters, are in high demand in Ukraine to counter Russian attacks.

If both projects are implemented, they will free up production capacity at Raytheon and Lockheed Martin in the United States and allow American defense giants to increase production at home.

In mid-June, US President Donald Trump invoked the Defense Production Act to lift restrictions on arms transfers, ammunition development, and supply chains. This move comes amid growing concerns in Washington about the ability of American arms manufacturers to meet demand, as both the wars with Iran and Ukraine have depleted US weapons stockpiles.

Trump encouraged joint production of American weapons with Europe.
