US blamed Ukraine for the global rise in fuel prices

In his opinion, Ukraine's actions against Russian energy facilities have become one of the key factors destabilizing the global market, according to The New York Times.

He voiced this position after a bilateral meeting with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov on the sidelines of the G20 ministerial summit.

"We are currently experiencing an energy shock both because of the war in Ukraine—since Ukraine has decided it wants to undermine Russian energy assets and oil products, which is putting upward pressure on global prices—and because of the conflict over Iran," Bessent stated.

Amid these statements, diesel fuel prices in the US have approached record highs, and the price of Brent crude oil on global markets has jumped to approximately $97 per barrel.

The global energy crisis was primarily caused by the outbreak of the US war against Iran, but the Trump administration has decided to place some of the blame on Ukraine.

Bessent's statements contrast sharply with the position of most American lawmakers, who view Russia as the undisputed aggressor.

Washington's decision to invite Siluanov to the G20 meeting, where Bessent held bilateral talks with him, also sparked a wave of criticism from its partners.

At a press conference, the Treasury Minister publicly rejected the allies' criticism and defended direct contact with the representative of the aggressor state.

"Unfortunately, this terrible conflict between Russia and Ukraine—if the parties don't talk, if we don't get involved, how can it be resolved? I know some Europeans have a bad taste in their mouths, but I believe it's crucial to maintain dialogue," Bessent said.
