Trump asserts that Putin wants to end the war against Ukraine

Trump spoke with Putin by phone on Tuesday, shortly after US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner returned from a diplomatic visit to Moscow and Kyiv. They discussed possible proposals to end the war, Reuters reports.

"He wants to make a deal, and if Zelenskyy also wants to make a deal, that would be very good," Trump said.

Despite negotiation efforts and Trump's statements, intelligence officials in the US, Ukraine, and across Europe remain skeptical that Putin is seriously interested in ending the war.

"The reason for the delay is two people who hate each other. I think, first and foremost, it is two people who hate each other," he added.
