There will always be simmering tensions between the US and China

Rubio stated that the US expects the visit to take place in September, according to Bloomberg.

"They continue to send their teams to prepare for the visit. I haven't heard anything to the contrary," he said.

Rubio acknowledged that when it comes to two large, powerful countries like the US and China, there will always be simmering tensions.

"But I believe powerful, important countries like ours have a responsibility to continue dialogue and maintain relationships," Rubio added.
