South Korea to scale back joint exercises with the US

The allies agreed to shorten the Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercises to Friday, cutting their duration almost in half, Yonhap reports.

The UFS exercises were scheduled to take place from August 17 to 27.

Field exercises, which form the core of these exercises, will also be somewhat scaled back. Discussions between the militaries of both countries are ongoing to finalize detailed plans.
