Putin to begin serious negotiations with Ukraine in spring 2027

Putin intends to intensify attacks on Ukraine over the winter to test its resistance and the resolve of Kyiv's allies, Bloomberg reports.

U.S. presidential envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff failed to make significant progress during talks held in Moscow and Kyiv over the weekend.

Putin showed no signs of softening his stance, despite recent signals from the U.S. to Moscow indicating that new ideas are needed to revive stalled peace talks.

The American envoys brought several good ideas to Kyiv, Zelenskyy stated on Tuesday. He declined to provide further details, noting that Kyiv had agreed with Washington to flesh out the specifics before making them public.

Russia's plan for the coming six months involves intensifying strikes on Ukraine's energy and heating infrastructure to make life unbearable for the civilian population, as well as ramping up hybrid attacks and political interference in Europe to undermine support for Kyiv.

Putin is banking on emerging from the conflict in a stronger position next spring, while keeping Russia's increasingly strained economy afloat. Serious negotiations are unlikely to take place until at least next year.

Ukraine's allies must respond by prioritizing the supply of air defense interceptors to help Kyiv defend itself.
