Oil prices fell by more than 1% as the U.S. works to weaken Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz.

On Monday, the U.S. launched a new operation aimed at opening the strait to shipping. Maersk reported that the U.S.-flagged car carrier Alliance Fairfax left the Gulf through the strait under the escort of the U.S. military, which slightly eased concerns about supply disruptions, Reuters reports.

Brent crude futures for July delivery fell by $1.22, or 1.1%, to $113.22 per barrel after rising 5.8% on Monday.
