Norway allocates over 260 million for air defense in Ukraine

The Norwegian government has announced the allocation of NOK 3 billion (EUR 268 million) to strengthen Ukraine's air defense.

The funds will be used to purchase air defense missiles for the Patriot system. Norway, along with Denmark, Germany, and Canada, will order the new missiles directly from a US factory under the PURL program.

Since delivery times for some of these missiles are quite long, Norway plans to purchase them from countries that already possess these resources for prompt delivery to Ukraine.

"Ukraine's fight for its defense is our fight for our defense. Ukraine confronts Russian attacks daily. Russia continues to strike people, Ukrainian cities, and energy infrastructure. Ukraine has succeeded in shooting down most drones and cruise missiles, but it needs a more powerful defense against ballistic missiles," said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Norway is allocating funds to enable it to join Ukraine's initiative to jointly develop anti-ballistic missile systems with European partners.
