Israel and Lebanon agreed to a ceasefire

Israel and Lebanon agreed to resume political and security talks the week of June 22 with the goal of reaching a comprehensive agreement, according to a joint statement, which also noted that the United States agreed to continue facilitating communication between the parties during this time, according to the US State Department.

Both sides agreed to quickly advance the establishment of pilot zones in which the Lebanese Armed Forces would assume exclusive control of territory, excluding all non-state actors, but no timeframe for these pilot zones was set.

Israel reaffirmed that its security and respect for its territorial integrity can only be ensured by disarming Hezbollah and dismantling its infrastructure throughout Lebanon.

Lebanon reaffirmed the need for mutual respect for internationally recognized borders and the urgent need for a complete cessation of hostilities, emphasizing the principles of territorial integrity and full state sovereignty.

Lebanon committed to strengthening the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces with US support to ensure effective control throughout the country.

The US emphasized its intention to support the Lebanese Armed Forces to enhance their capabilities and ensure the effective exercise of sovereignty throughout Lebanon.

All parties condemned Iran's attacks on regional countries and its ongoing actions undermining stability in the Middle East, whether through support for its allies or through any other acts of aggression.
