B-52 bomber crash in the US: eight killed

Eight crew members were killed when a B-52 bomber crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in California during a scheduled test flight.

This is the deadliest accident involving a B-52 bomber since 1982, according to CNN.

The incident occurred during a mission that took off at 11:20 a.m. local time from a remote air base. According to the military, the flight was part of a radar upgrade program.

The crash is being treated as a search and recovery operation. A fire broke out at the crash site, leaving a tall, black smoke cloud and charred marks on the runway.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. The crew consisted of military personnel, civilian government employees, and government contractors. Boeing confirmed that two of its employees were on board.
